Hyundai Tucson: Manual Transaxle Control System / Control Cable Repair procedures

Inspection
1.
Check the select cable for proper operation and for damage.
2.
Check the shift cable for proper operation and for damage.
3.
Check the boots for damage.
4.
Check the boots for wear abrasion sticking, restricted movement or damage.
5.
Check for the weak or damaged spring.
6.
Operating lever of body side, check secure oreration of lever of T/M side after assembly.
Removal
1.
Remove the center console.
(Refer to "Console" in BD group)
2.
Remove the snap pin (A) and the clip (B).

3.
Remove the clip (A) and then remove the shift cable assembly.

4.
Remove the retainer (A) and nuts (B).

Tightening torque :
7.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

5.
Remove the following items;
A.
Air cleaner assembly and air duct.
(Refer to "Intake and Exhaust system" in EM group.)
B.
Battery and battery tray.
(Refer to "Charging system" in EE group.)
6.
Remove the shift & select cable (A).
(1)
Remove the pin (B) and washer (C).
(2)
Make unlock clip (D) and then remove the shift & select cable (A) and the clip (D) from the bracket.

   
When intalling, do not reuse the clip (D).
7.
Remove the shift cable at cabin room.
8.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
   
•
When installing, set room side Shift lever and T/M side lever to N position.
•
When installing, adjust the select cable.
(Refer to " Control Cable adjustment procedure " in this group.)
Adjustment
Select cable adjustment
1.
Shift the shift lever to 3rd gear.
2.
Move the slide clip (B) of guide member (A) in the direction as shown in the illustration.
   
Adjust the slide clip fit into the select lever moving the slide clip in the direction (C).

3.
Install the guide member (A) of the select cable (B).

4.
Adjust the slide clip (B) to fit it into the select lever pin (A) and install the snap pin (C).
   
Insert the slide clip in the direction as shown in the illustration.
